About this Product

The Barber half dollar was introduced in 1892 and was issued until 1915. It is named after it's designer, the Chief Engraver of the US Mint; Charles E. Barber. The obverse design is Liberty with a cap and wreath. This figure was inspired both by classical Greek and Roman models. The reverse a heraldic eagle similar to that featured on the Great Seal of the United States.

The Denver Mint was commissioned into service by the Federal Government in 1906. At that time the largest silver coin issued by the US Mint for circulation was the Barber Half Dollar. The Morgan was last issued in 1904. A shortage of circulating coins resulted in the US Mint striking coins at three other mint facilities in 1906... Philadelphia, San Francisco and New Orleans.

Today, over 115 years later, collector specimens of the Denver Mint's first are far and few between. Over the past 6 months we've assembled a small group for our best customers...!
