About this Product

When the US Mint pulled 90% silver coins from circulation in the 1960's everyone became a hoarder. But the coins we found and put aside in our "piggy banks" were the coins from circulation. Few people thought of the Special Release Proofs also produced - they were the GEMS and today they are the SLEEPERS!

Between 1960 and 1964 the US Mint produced between 90 Million ( 1960 ) and 1.2 Billon ( 1964 ) Philadelphia and Denver Mint coins for circulation each year. For the last 5 years of 90% silver in circulation ( 1960-1964 ), the US Mint produced just shy of 2 Billion coins in total !! But they only produced 14.7 Million proofs - that's over 100 to 1! Yet they sell for the same price today, which means it's a perfect opportunity!

The Highest Quality
Proofs are a special release produced by the US Mint every year for the collector and not released into circulation. They are double struck on highly polished dies, creating a finished product that is stunning - you can actually see yourself in the coin (like a mirror). They sell for a premium when released ... and are worth it.

The Last Philadelphia Mint Proofs
From its inception in the 1790's the US Mint struck all of its Proofs at the Philadelphia Mint - the main mint. But in 1965 while the government was changing the composition in our coins from 90% silver they also decided to change minting facilities for the high-end proofs. So they were moved to San Francisco and after a three year hiatus they started proof production in 1968.

This 1962 Silver Proof Quarter was produced at the Philadelphia Mint and comes in a protective capsule.
