2004-2005 Complete Westward Nickel Collection - 16 pc
Philadelphia, Denver & San Francisco
Complete Westward Nickel Collection
Uncirculated Philadelphia & Denver, San Francisco Proof & Satin Finish
In 2004, the U.S. Mint introduced the first new Nickel design since 1938. It was the first of four different coin designs to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Lewis & Clark Expedition's "Westward Journey." These were also the first commemorative Nickels in American history!
Overall, four coin designs were issued. The
Peace Medal & Keelboat
in 2004, followed by the
Buffalo and Ocean View
Most of the limited edition coins were released into circulation, but the coins in this collection have never been in the public's hands!
This collection consists of the following coins:
Philadelphia & Denver Mint issue of all FOUR nickel designs
editions of all FOUR designs, struck at the San Francisco Mint (4 coins)
Buffalo and Ocean View Nickels. One of each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints (4 coins)
That's 16 Coins in All!
In 2005, the United States Mint introduced special Satin Finish coins that were made in limited editions and included ONLY in official United States Mint Sets. None were released into circulation or made available individually from the U.S. Mint...so they remain a "secret" that few people know about. You will notice the Satin Finish coins look different from regular issue Nickels. This is because the dies are sandblasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads. The result is a smooth matte or "frosted" finish with superior eye appeal to that of an Uncirculated Nickel.
Each coin is encapsulated in our custom box display.
