About this Product Full Product Name

The Bison or Buffalo nickel is the third nickel released in the United States Mint's Westward Journey Nickel Series. Designed to represent and acknowledge, nature and the wildlife that Lewis and Clark came across throughout their explorations and recognize the culture of the American Indian. On the reverse, it still depicts the Buffalo as seen in the past on the Buffalo Nickels from 1913-1938. The first new 2005 design on the nickel's reverse (back) features the American bison or buffalo. This animal used to roam the plains in such great numbers that Lewis and Clark noted the animal often in their journals. This buffalo also reminds us of the American Indians who counted on the animal for food, clothing, and shelter, and of all the wildlife that the explorers wrote about.

This special collection is the opportunity for you to collect both of the GOLD and the PLATINUM versions of the Buffalo Westward Nickels, each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. Each in a separate lens, one for the Gold version and another for the Platinum. The coins are layered 7 times in gold and platinum respectively.
