The Minnesota State Quarter design celebrates the state as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." The official State motto is "L'Etoile du Nord" (Star of the North), but its unofficial nickname "Land of 10,000 Lakes" is contained within an outline map of the state. The coin design also shows a tree-lined lake with two people fishing from a boat. The loon in the foreground is the state bird. The fishermen symbolize the tremendous popularity of both fishing and outdoor activities in Minnesota.
