The Carolina wren, which became the state bird in 1939 and symbolizes the hospitality of the states people. A Yellow jessamine, the official state flower. Finally, a Palmetto tree, which has been a part of the state flag since 1861, and the official state state tree. It represents South Carolinas strength.
