About this Product

Honest Abe...Honestly Popular

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Illinois' statehood is the 1918 Illinois Centennial Half Dollar. This coin was the first commemorative coin to sell its full authorized mintage, which in this case was a miniscule 100,058. Abraham Lincoln, nicknamed the "son of Illinois," was an imperative figure in the admission of Illinois into the union. He also spent most of his professional life in Illinois prior to his presidency, as depicted on the bicentennial Lincoln Cent titled "Professional Years."

The obverse of this half dollar depicts a portrait of Abraham Lincoln which was created specifically for this coin, adding to its already immense popularity. The inscriptions on this half dollar read "Centennial State of Illinois," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "1918." The reverse was designed after the Illinois State Seal, depicting an eagle with one talon on a shield, and a ribbon in its beak.

Today, the 1918 Illinois Centennial "Lincoln" Half Dollar represents one of the most popular classic commemorative coins ever minted!

This coin is in uncirculated condition and comes in an airtight capsule and protective pouch.
