June 6th, 1944 … Operation Overload and D-Day invasion of Europe is a day the world will always remember. The man charged with the planning of the Allied liberation of Western Europe and the invasion of Germany was General Eisenhower … made the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe by President Roosevelt in December of 1943. He would later serve two terms in office (1953 to 196 ) as our 34th President. A few years after his death, March 28, 1969, Congress authorized the striking of the Eisenhower Dollar.

The Eisenhower Dollar
The “Ike” dollar was released into circulation in 1971. The dollar was struck with a copper-nickel composition. It was also the last dollar coin to contain the a proportional amount of base metal to lower denominations .. the same as 2 half dollars or 10 dimes. Because of its large size it was never really accepted in circulation and last issued in 1978. The US Mints in Philadelphia and Denver were responsible for releasing coins into circulation. One was released each year for the eight years … a total of 16 coins in all. The collection is a difficult one to assemble because they never released the 1973 issue into circulation … only making it available in US Mint Sets. In 1975-1976 the US Mint released a special design in a celebration of our bicentennial. There is no 1975 dated coin .. all carry the dual date 1776-1976 … BUT … they did make two types: the 1975 issue (known as Variety 1) which has a low/flat relief .. and the revised issue (1976 – Variety 2) which has a sharp delicate design.

Plus … The Secret Silver Uncirculated issues
Yes a Silver Eisenhower! The San Francisco Mint also struck an uncirculated “Ike” dollar. But this edition was a real “silver” coin … struck in 40% silver. They were struck between 1971 and 1974 and then again for the bicentennial in 1976 - 5 coins in all. They were not released into circulation and carry some of the lowest mintage figures in the entire series.

The Complete Collection … 21 Uncirculated Coins !!!
We’ve assembled them all … the Ps and Ds .. including the two Bicentennial varieties AND we also include the 5 Silver issues … all 21 uncirculated coins. To protect and preserve this collection we have them in Dansco Albums .. considered by many as the finest album on the market.
