About this Product

1987 U.S. Constitution 200th Anniversary Silver Dollar

The Constitution of the United States stands as the cornerstone of our nation, enshrining the fundamental rights and freedoms that define America as the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave". This historic document, signed by illustrious Founding Fathers such as George Washington, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin, forms the foundation of American governance and civil liberties.

In 1987, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of this pivotal moment in American history, the U.S. Mint released a special .900 fine silver dollar. This coin celebrates two centuries since the signing of the U.S. Constitution, paying tribute to the enduring principles it embodies.

The obverse of the Constitution Silver Dollar features a representation of a parchment scroll and a quill pen, with the iconic phrase “We The People” inscribed beneath. The perimeter of the obverse is adorned with the inscriptions “The U.S. Constitution 200th Anniversary”, “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and the milestone years “1787” & “1987”.

On the reverse, the coin showcases 13 diverse figures standing in unison, symbolizing the original 13 colonies and the diversity of their inhabitants. Encircling this assembly are the words “E Pluribus Unum”, “Dollar”, and “United States of America”, highlighting the unity and collective identity of the nation.
