About this Product

A Collection Honoring Our Nation's Minting History: The 2012 Making History Coin and Currency Set

If there is one thing we learned from 2016, is that Americans have a knack for making history. We saw the return of the Star Wars film franchise that shattered box office records; arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, had his single half scoring record broken by Jimmy Butler; American Astronaut Jim Kelley set a new record with 340 consecutive days in space; and Olympian Michael Phelps officially retired with a record of 23 Gold Olympic medals...it is safe to say, 2016 was certainly a milestone year!

Since 1792, the United States Mint has been creating the money that we have used for everything from buying groceries to putting a down payment on a house. This iconic institution, alongside the Bureau of Engraving (founded 1862), helped shape our nation into the world power it is today. In honor of this monumental influence, the United States Mint released a set in 2012 that commemorated what they themselves, Americans in general, do best...make history!

This U.S. Mint special release 'Making History Coin and Currency Set' is a two-piece collection containing a 2012 San Francisco Mint Proof Silver Eagle, commemorating the 220th anniversary of the U.S. Mint, and a special $5 bill with a serial number beginning with "150" honoring the 150th anniversary of the Bureau of Engraving. With an extremely limited mintage of just 60,205 this collection is very hard to find...mainly due to the fact that this was one of only two-ways for collectors to get their hands on the extremely rare 2012 S-Mint Proof Silver Eagle, the rarest San Francisco Mint Proof Silver Eagle ever minted!

This two piece set contains one 2012 San Francisco Proof Silver Eagle and one 2009 $5 Bill with serial number beginning with "150"
