The Queen’s Beast Returns in Silver: The 2019 2oz. Yale
When the Queen of England, Elizabeth II, was coroneted in 1953, there was a collection of 10 Heraldic Beast statues that stood guard over her at the Westminster Abbey with each standing over 6 feet tall. These Heraldic Creatures symbolize the various royal ancestries that were now being brought together thanks to the crowning of the new Queen. The Queen’s Beast statues themselves now reside in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec, as well as on a special collection of 2 oz. silver coins!
Starting in 2017 The Royal Mint in the United Kingdom began producing a special 2 oz. silver series in which each of the iconic Heraldic Beasts would be immortalized in stunning .9999 fine silver! We are proud to announce the early arrival of 2019’s newest Silver Queen’s Beast: the Yale!
2019’s Second Silver Beast: The Yale
The ‘Yale’ is a mythical creature similar to the manticore in that it is an amalgamation of several animals. It is said to have the body of a horse, the tusks of a boar, and the head of an Antelope/Goat/Ram. The Yale is a monster that is incredibly old, & goes by the name of ‘Centicore’ in Latin, which really drives home how old this creature is in cultural history!
The design of this coin Features the image of the ‘Yale’ rearing up on its hind legs with the shield it is most commonly associated with it just below. In this case, the shield contains the Blue and White ‘Quarters’ of Lady Margaret and a golden portcullis in the center.

She married four times in her life, with her only child belonging to her second husband Edmund Tudor. That child was King Henry VII and founded the Tudor Dynasty
