2021 Silver Eagle - P Emergency - PCGS 69 Premier

The Silver Eagle holds a special place in every collection because it has one of the most beautiful coinage designs ever produced! The design is a true classic that first appeared on Silver Half Dollars from 1916-1947. In addition to this special design, it also hits our Silver Dollar Tri-fecta: it is the largest, heaviest, and purest silver coin in U.S. history.

Due to the ongoing global pandemic impacting the nation, the United States Mint in West Point has needed to be closed periodically for cleaning and unfortunately that stops production. While the West Point Mint was out of commission, the San Francisco Mint had stepped up & continued to produce the 2021 Type 1 Uncirculated silver eagles to help meet the ever-increasing collector demand!

The only problem was the San Francisco Mint’s help was not enough, so it came down to the Mother Mint herself: Philadelphia! They would strike another 495,000 uncirculated silver eagles to help meet the incredible demand.

With a total mintage of just 495,000 uncirculated Silver Eagles, these coins are more than twice as rare as the 2021 San Francisco Mint ‘emergency’ issue that had a total of 1,000,000 coins!

The silver eagle has been a constant in collecting for more than 35 years since its debut in 1986 and this year, 2021, marks the final Silver Eagle struck with the same reverse that we have grown to love. This is the only year in the Silver Eagle series that there will be TWO DIFFERENT designs released – starting the year with a ‘Type 1’ (the Old Design) and a later this year ‘Type 2’ (The New Design). Alongside this design change is the incorporation of anti-counterfeiting technology into the coins!

That means these 2021 ‘Type 1’ Emergency Issue Philadelphia Mint Uncirculated Silver Eagles are just the second ‘Type’ Silver eagles of their kind ever made after the San Francisco issue… and with the upcoming design change, they also will be the last!
