The Morgan Dollar is considered by many the "True" coin of the fabled Wild West. Made out of nearly 1 full ounce of .900 pure silver from the famous Comstock Lode silver discovery. It was 1st struck in 1878 and continued until 1904 and then again for one final year in 1921.

This Morgan dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, America's main mint, oldest and most historic Mint.

The Morgan Dollars are essentially memorable to their creation under the Brand-Allison Act. Wherein, the United States Treasury had to purchase between two and four million dollars of silver monthly to be converted into dollars, with this, the birth of the Morgan Dollar. This particular first issue coin was especially significant due to the error that was created upon producing it. There was an incorrect portrayal of the amount of tail feathers an eagle has. The tail feathers of an eagle are equal amounts, like 8 - hence the depiction of 7 being incorrect.

The Philadelphia Mint produced 53.42 % of all Morgan dollars issued between 1878 and 1921 The Philadelphia Mint Morgan does not bear a Mint Mark like the branch mints. A Philadelphia Mint Morgan dollar can be determined by looking on the back of the coin below the Eagle...NO mint mark is present above the letters "D" and "O" in the word "Dollar".

What is a "Rainbow" Morgan Dollar?

When collector's store their coins, they place them in special holders, rolls, albums, drawers, etc. As these coins age within their collector's chosen method of storage, their packaging and environment slowly colorize the coins. This colorization results in multiple, unique coins all bearing the "Rainbow Effect" featuring all the different colors of the spectrum. Most "Rainbow" Morgan Silver Dollars are colorized on only one side while a select few were stored in just the right conditions to result in the "Rainbow Effect" on both sides of the coin.
