1909 3 pc Cent Collection

In 1909 the US Mint struck 3 different cents for circulation. It was the last year of issue for the Indian Head Cent, in circulation since 1859. It is also the first year of issue for the new Lincoln Cent. 1909 was the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Lincoln. It is the first circulating coin in US history with the image of one of our Presidents. Making the first year interesting the designer, Victor David Brenner, placed his initials, "VDB", prominently on the reverse (at 6 o’clock), The public protested the “advertising” on a US coin so the United States Mint had it quickly removed.

This 3 pc set captures all three of the issues of 1909, the Indian Head Cent , a Lincoln with the infamous "VDB" initials, and the revised version (without).

All three circulated coins are encapsulated and presented in our custom display pack.
