Benjamin Franklin: The Father of the Revolution

It is often argued that Benjamin Franklin was the true lynchpin of the revolution; without his efforts in obtaining the support of our biggest ally, Britain’s arch-nemesis France, the United States of America would probably not exists as we know it today! He was so influential and vital to our nation’s success that when they commissioned the Franklin Half Dollar to be minted in 1948, he held the esteemed distinction of being the only non-President to ever be featured on a circulating U.S. Mint coin!

The Full Bell Lines that separate the ‘Good’ from ‘Great' - Less than 1% of all Franklins!

When it comes to Franklin Half Dollars, full bell lines are what separate regular coins from extraordinary ones. The full bell line, or FBL, is a designation used to describe a Franklin Half Dollar that has complete and uninterrupted bell lines. The designation is used as an indicator of a piece with superior strike quality. FBL Franklins are considered fully struck coins with perfect definition, aka: a true collector’s coin. With all years of issue taken into account, less than 1% of all Franklin Half Dollars today have the Full Bell Line designation!

The Liberty Bell on the reverse of a Franklin Half Dollar consists of two sets of bell lines, an upper set of three lines and lower set of two lines. For a coin to be designated FBL, the lines must have complete separation with no major interruptions, such as marks, scrapes, cuts, gashes, etc.
