To commemorate Benjamin Franklin’s service to this country’s firefighters, Congress authorized the 1992 Benjamin Franklin Firefighters Silver Medal as a way to honor his contributions and those of the brave men and women who keep us safe every day. The coin’s obverse was designed by Thomas D. Rogers and features a strong portrait of Benjamin Franklin behind an original Union Fire Company hat. The reverse, by T. James Ferrell, depicts a modern day firefighter climbing down a ladder, with a rescued child clutched in his arms.

The 1992 Benjamin Franklin Firefighters Proof Silver Medal is not only a great addition to a US Mint collection, but also an exquisite reminder of the courageous firefighters who risk their lives for us each day.
