The Ultimate Explorer Collection: The 2004 Lewis and Clark Coin and Pouch Collection

The United States of America is a land that was built upon the backs of the hardy adventurers who braved the dangerous and mysterious terrain that has become forever known as the ‘Wild West’. The proper exploration of our American Midwest began with Lewis and Clark’s Westward Journey in 1804 – Just one year after the Louisiana Purchase!

Over the next year and a half the duo would face incredible hardships on their journey, but in the end they would accomplish their goals and in the process become immortalized as an integral part of our American history.

In fact, Today (September 23rd) is the Anniversary of Lewis and Clark finally returning back to St. Louis after their historic journey came to an end – it took them more than 2 and a half years, but their mark on American History would last forever!

It took us the better part of a year of hard searching -- but we have finally been able to get our hands on a small number of what has become the #1 Lewis and Clark coin collection ever made: the 2004 Coin and Pouch Collection!

A Purchase of Land & the Explorers who became Legend

The Louisiana Purchase was bought in 1803 from the French by President Thomas Jefferson and was an acquisition that nearly doubled the size of the United States at the time! After this massive expansion of our borders, Jefferson reached out to two of his frontier ambassadors, Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, to explore this new land. The expedition, which would be known as the ‘Corps of Volunteers of Northwestern Discovery’ and was charged with the important duty of exploring and mapping this new territory.

The iconic duo of Lewis and Clark would go down as two of the most successful military explorers in the history of the United States...but what many forgot the mint’s special coin collection from 2004 that honored the native Americans who helped them on their journey west!

A One-of-a-Kind Collection Honoring America’s History’

The set they produced in 2004 was an absolute HIT with collectors! This special release set contains one Lewis and Clark Proof silver dollar from 2004 in a beautifully crafted display box that features a map of the expedition’s route to the west! Alongside this special collectors box is something very unique: an authentic, hand-made beaded leather pouch made by the real Native American tribes who lived on the route and helped our brave explorers in the dangerous new lands they found themselves.

Each of these leather pouches was hand-made by an actual Native American belonging to the tribes and was created using only the same materials that would have been available to their ancestors back in 1804! Each collection also contains a certificate of authenticity ensuring it was made by the Tribe members for this special collection honoring our nation’s heritage.

Did You Know? These coin and Pouch Sets are actually rarer than the U.S. Mint Sell-out Coin and Currency sets! With a mintage of just 48,835 the Coin & Pouch sets were the rarest Lewis and Clark set from the U.S. Mint in 2004!
