The Medal of Honor was established in 1861 and is the nation’s highest award for valor in action against an enemy force. The 2011 50th Anniversary Silver Dollar was also struck at two mints the Proof at Philadelphia, the uncirculated at San Francisco. One side depicts the three current Medals of Honor of the Army, Navy and Air Force, with the other an infantry soldier carrying a wounded soldier to safety under enemy fire.The uncirculated mintage was just 44, 769.
