President George Herbert Walker (H.W.) Bush was a man of many hats, including the biggest one of them all: President of the United States! He joined the United States Navy in WWII and while doing so earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the U.S. Navy Air Medal with two gold stars!

After leaving the service in 1945 he attended Yale University and obtained a degree in Economics. He then began a long, storied career in politics that included: two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (1966-1970); Ambassador to the United Nations (1971-1973); Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1973-1974); Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in China (1974-1976); and Director of Central Intelligence (1976-1977).

Afterward, he served as the vice president from 1981 to 1989 under Ronald Reagan, which eventually led to him becoming the President of the United States in 1988!

Many years later his son, George W. Bush, would be elected to the office and serve as the 43rd President of the United States – this made them the first ‘Father and Son’ Presidents since John Adams (4th) and John Quincy Adams (6th)!
