We are proud to announce the arrival of the newest issue in the series: the 2022 1oz Reverse Proof Pegasus!

Pegasus: A Story Worthy of the Gods

The story of Pegasus begins with the hero Perseus who is sent to kill one of the three Gorgons – Medusa, a creature with a head full of snakes instead of hair. It was legend that anyone unfortunate enough to gaze on her face would be immediately turn to stone. The God Hermes and the Goddess Athena came to aid Perseus with special gifts, including a shield which Perseus used as a mirror so he did not look directly at Medusa. When Perseus beheaded Medusa it is said that Pegasus was born from the spilled blood of the Gorgon. After Pegasus had helped Perseus rescue Andromeda, he was carried to Mount Helicon where he was entrusted to the care of the architects of fate, the Muses.

Many wanted to capture Pegasus but no one could work out how to tame such a magnificent creature. After being advised to sleep in the temple of Athena, Bellerophon saw the goddess before him holding a golden bridle. When he awoke he was alone but the bridle was still there! He ran from the temple and found Pegasus drinking at a nearby spring. Bellerophon put the charmed bridle on the winged horse’s head with little difficulty and, with the bridle in place, Pegasus became gentle and tame with Bellerophon becoming his master.

This year’s 2022 edition features a stunning rendition of the mythical creature from Greek lore rearing its front hooves with it wings stretched out majestically to each side. Struck in stunning reverse proof condition, these coins are sure to be the centerpiece of any collection and will sell-out just as fast as their predecessors did!
