The 42 'Forgotten' Kennedy Half Dollars: The 2002-2022 Philadelphia & Denver Mint Collection

John F. Kennedy is one of our nation’s most iconic presidents, and it is easy to see why he is so beloved! It was the pure grit, honor, and determination of our Commander in Chief that would earn him his Navy and Marine Corp Cross and Purple Heart. He earned these decorations while serving during a night-time mission… Kennedy’s P.T. boat was rammed and decimated by a Japanese destroyer. It was in this aftermath that the true heroism of John F. Kennedy was seen: he swam to each of the wounded survivors and dragged them one-by-one to safety amongst the wreckage. He did all of this while his back had become severely injured during the wreck, nearly killing himself with the effort.

With such a rich history, it is no surprise that the Kennedy Half Dollar has been one of America's favorite coins since its inception in 1964. It is a collecting icon with a history of production well over 50 years long and still going strong. Since 1964, Philadelphia and Denver issues have been made each year for circulation making them a staple in everyday coinage - but starting in 2002 the U.S. Mint no longer released these uncirculated half dollars into circulation.

This resulted in many everyday collectors missing out on these coins… because if you did not buy a roll or break open a U.S. Mint Set yourself, you had no real way of getting your hands on them.

After realizing this, we decided to put together a massive 42 coin collection of every ‘forgotten’ Philadelphia and Denver Mint Uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollar struck from 2002 all the way up to today (2022).

Some of the Rarest Uncirculated Kennedys in Series: The ‘Forgotten’ P&D issues of 2002-2022

The final year of circulating Kennedy Half Dollars (2001) saw over 21 million struck at Philadelphia and another 19.5 million struck in Denver for a combined total of 40,704,000. After they stopped striking them for circulation, their mintage numbers plummeted - making these coins some of the rarest uncirculated issues in the entire series!

Now compare some of the mintages for the 2002 to 2019 issues with the final circulation-strike year in 2001:

2002-P: 3,100,000 – 2002-D: 2,500,000 – total of 5,600,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 7 times rarer
2008-P: 1,700,000 – 2008-D: 1,700,000 – total of 3,400,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 12 times rarer
2012-P: 1,800,000 – 2012-D: 1,700,000 – total of 3,500,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 11 times rarer
2013-P: 5,000,000 – 2013-D: 4,600,000 – total of 9,600,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 4 times rarer
2015-P: 2,300,000 – 2015-D: 2,300,000 – total of 4,600,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 8 times rarer
2019-P: 1,700,000 – 2019-D: 1,700,000 – total of 3,400,000 – VS 2001 mintage: 12 times rarer
2020-P: 1,216,330 – 2020-D: 1,216,330 – total of 2,432,660 – VS 2001 mintage: 16 times rarer
2021-P: 1,262,430 – 2021-D: 1,262,430 – total of 2,524,860 – VS 2001 mintage: 16 times rarer

That is right, even the HIGHEST known mintage since 2002 – the 2013 issues at a combined 9.6 million – are more than four times rarer than their 2001 circulating counterparts! On average, these ‘Forgotten Kennedys’ are more than 10 times rarer than 2001, with some of the years being 12 to 16 times rarer. Talk about your forgotten treasure.

Each 42 piece set will arrive with each coin encapsulated and in our custom display album.

But hurry, we only have a limited number of these complete collections left in stock…
