Description

The Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week holiday was signed into Law by President Kennedy back in 1962 to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers. It was amended in 1994 by President Clinton to include the flag of the United States be flown at half staff. In 1997 the US Mint released a Special Edition Silver Dollar to celebrate the 25th Anniversary. It wasn't a secret, but the mintage figures make it look like it was. In 2001 the US Mint released the Buffalo Special Edition dollar with a mintage of 500,000 with a quick sell out. In 2010 a silver dollar was released for the centennial of the Boy Scouts of America with 350,000 which also sold out quickly. Only 28,575 were made of this Philadelphia Minted Uncirculated Dollar - one of the rarest of all modern issue dollars! This coin comes in the original US Mint government packaging.
