Each year, the United States Mint releases several annual collections, the finest among these being the Official U.S. Proof Sets. The U.S. Mint Proof set contains one of each coin for that year of issue, with each being a double struck, highly polished specimen. These coins are a collector's dream, and are quite simply the best of the best. In collecting, quality always wins...so it is a no brainer that Proof Sets are also the most popular issues released every year!

Prior to the turn of the century, the Green Box Proof Sets from 1994 to 1998 were the rarest modern issue proof sets released by the United States Mint. They are called the "Green Box Sets" because of the unique green outer box the U.S. Mint used as the display box for just those 5 years. Prior to 1994, Proof Sets came in either a sealed Mint Envelope (Pre-1968), a Blue box (1968-1972), a Black Box (1973-1982), or a Purple box (1984-1992). The Green Box Proof Sets are some of the most sought after in the entire United States Proof Set series, so when it comes to these proof sets Green is truly as good as gold!

The regular issue U.S. Proof Set is the most popular issue released by the U.S. Mint each year, and once you have them in your hand...it's easy to understand why! They are the highest quality coins struck each year by the United States Mint. In fact, when proof coins were introduced in the middle of the 1800's, they were primarily used as presentation pieces and diplomatic gifts. One of the most famous proof sets ever produced was the fabled "King of Siam" proof set...which was originally given as a diplomatic gift to the King of Siam from President Andrew Jackson in 1836.
