The United States America the Beautiful Quarter Program
The
2010 Yellowstone
Quarter is the
second
coin in the United States America the Beautiful Quarter Series. The series began in 2010 and honors one national park from each of the 50 States as well as Washington D.C. and the five territories.
This first year of releases will include:
Hot Springs, Arkansas; Yellowstone, Wyoming; Yosemite, California; Grand Canyon, Arizona; Mount Hood, Oregon
.
There will be
5
Quarters released each year. Like the State Quarters, each quarter will be minted from the Philadelphia and the Denver Mint. The obverse design showing George Washington remains unchanged, while the reverse design reflects the National Park that is being honored.
Yellowstone is located primarily in the state of Wyoming, but also extends into Montana and Idaho. It has the distinction of being America's first national park. It is the second America the Beautiful Quarter released because Hot Springs, while the 18th designated park, was set aside by the government many years earlier as the very first federal site.
The quarter's reverse features Old Faithful with a bison in the foreground as well as the inscriptions YELLOWSTONE, WYOMING, 2010 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
This is the
Philadelphia
Minted, uncirculated quarter. It will be encapsulated to protect its condition.

Announcing the America The Beautiful Quarters™ Series (TM)
How can you make something better than the 50 State Quarter Program? Here's how !!
There were many reasons for the success of the State Quarter program in 1999. The top two - the design ( each state had their own theme ), and the limited production - only being made for less than 11 weeks.
Starting in 2010, it just got better. Taking a page from the success referenced above, the US Mint will be issuing a New Series .. "The America the Beautiful Quarters™." But this one will have a twist. There will be one quarter per state, just like the 50 State Program, but the design will be based on one of the National Parks located in each state. The order will be based on when they were introduced as a National Treasure.
But the kicker is distribution. Unlike the 50 State Quarter program where Congress forced the Mint to distribute the quarters to the local markets ( and even then many of us didn't see but a few of the releases ) this new program does NOT have to be released into the same flow of commerce. What does that mean? Well in 2009 the Mint released 6 special quarters for the six US Protectorate Territories .. adding them to the 50 State Quarter Program. Have any of you seen them in circulation? And if so, more than a couple? That's the "New" distribution system.
The
Yellowstone
Quarter is the
SECOND
in the new America The Beautiful Quarter Series (TM). The Yellowstone National Park Quarter shows a mature bull buffalo standing on front of the erupting Old Faithful geyser. Buffalo once roamed by the millions across the western plains, but Yellowstone National Park is now home to the last free-roaming herd of buffalo in the United States. Old Faithful erupts for between 1.5 and 5 minutes about every 90 minutes. It shoots up to 8,400 gallons of boiling water up to 185 feet in the air. This 40-coin roll of Yellowstone Quarters was minted at the Philadelphia Mint, and is in brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The
Grand Canyon
Quarter is the
FOURTH
in the new America The Beautiful Quarter Series (TM). The Arizona - Grand Canyon quarter is easily the most beautiful quarter of the year ... it depicts the granaries above the Nankowweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River. The second series in the State Quarter Program celebrates our National Parks ... and is there a more beautiful place in our beloved country than the Grand Canyon? This 40-coin roll of Grand Canyon Quarters was minted at the Philadelphia Mint, and is in brilliant Uncirculated condition.
