2018 Mythical Creature Series - The Centaur

The Pobjoy Mint's new Antique Finish 2 oz. silver Mythological Creatures have been one of the hottest coin collections released in recent years! The combination of incredibly detailed coins, 2 oz. of .999 pure silver, and extremely low mintages of just 650 each made these coins true collecting monsters.

This new series began at the start of 2018 and displaying some of the most iconic mythological creatures the world has ever known immortalized in silver: the Siren, Minotaur (Out of Stock), Hyrda (Out of Stock), and Medusa (Out of Stock)! Public demand for these coins has exploded and we are excited for the arrival of the final coin in the series: the 2018 Silver Centaur!

Outside of the Medusa, the Centaur is easily one of the most iconic Mythological Creatures of all-time. These enormous beasts are half-man and half-horse and often depicted as having the lower body of a horse and the upper torso and head of a man. They were considered to be the children of Ixion, the king of Lapiths, and Nephele, a magical cloud created in the image of Zeus’ wife the goddess Hera.

The design of the coin itself depicts the Centaur in the middle of an epic Greek battle, with its bow drawn and an arrow knocked ready to strike as it rides into the fray. Other Greek soldiers can be seen in the background fighting for their lives; also visible is on the left side is a Greek Parthenon-style building.

These special 2 oz. silver Centaur's have what is called an Antique finish. Each piece is struck from 2oz. of .999 pure silver and then as the last step in the production process they use a special Antique finish that deepens the design and truly brings the image to life! Once you combine this incredibly designed coin with its maximum allowed mintage of 650 it is easy to see why this series are the most sought after coins of 2018!
