About this Product

Copper was a key war supply. When supplies hit a critical state in 1943, the US Mint resorted to steel cents. But it didn't last, steel rusts! So after only one year of production, the US Mint tried again, this time utilizing used cartridge cases salvaged from combat. Issued between 1944 and 1946, it seemed to do the trick. Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints all issued the shell casing cent. All of our shell casing cents are in uncirculated condition, encapsulated and in a display.
