Design of the 2003 Arkansas State Quarter

The 2003 Arkansas State Quarter is the 25th release in the popular 50 State Quarters Program by the United States Mint. The coin's reverse design, created by John Mercanti and sculpted by William Cousins, features three significant elements:

  1. A depiction of a diamond-bearing pipe, symbolizing Arkansas's status as the only state in the United States with an active diamond mine;
  2. An image of the graceful Mallard duck, representing the state's abundant wildlife and natural resources;
  3. The inscription "Home of Crater of Diamonds State Park," celebrating the state's unique geological features and the many treasures found within its borders.

The coin's obverse, designed by John Flanagan, features the classic portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
