The First Peace Dollar P/D/S Set! 1922's 3 pc. set in Stunning Uncirculated Condition

There are a select few coins through the history of the United States Mint with a better story than the fabled Peace Dollar… and it all began with US Victory and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28th, 1919 to mark the official end of the First World War, otherwise known as the "Great War".

In the aftermath of this global conflict, our nation needed a new dollar to signify their transition away from the years of bloodshed and violence that had gripped them during the world war. They needed a coin to herald in the new era of peace that was to be ushered in… and that is exactly what they decided to call the coin: The Peace!

The Peace Dollar made history as the final silver dollar ever produced by the United States Mint meant for everyday circulation and was minted from 1921 to 1928, and again in 1934 and 1935.

We have put together a collection of the first P/D/S Set of Peace Dollars in U.S. Mint history! 1922 was the first year that the Peace Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints -- making it a must-have trio of U.S. Mint Silver Dollars!

But wait, it gets even better -- our 3pc. Set of Uncirculated Peace Silver Dollars are more than $260 less than our nearest competition!

The Silver Dollar Made Without Congressional Approval!

The Peace Dollar was issued without congressional approval under the terms of the Pittman Act of 1918. The act referred to a bullion dollar being created, but did not specify the design. Coin collectors lobbied the Mint to issue a coin that memorialized the peace following World War I. Congress would not pass a bill requiring a design change (the Morgan was the last released), but they were able to persuade government officials to take action.

The original design of the peace dollar was in high-relief. The images of Liberty and Majestic Eagle were created higher than traditional coins, but after only a month the design was re-worked. The coins wouldn't stack properly, creating an issue for merchants across the country. The design incorporated the word "In God We Trust" like all U.S. coins... but here the word "Trust" was spelled "Trvst" - the letter V for victory in WWI.

The 1922 Silver Dollars from the Branch Mints

After the government was persuaded to change the design from the Morgan to the Peace and the design was corrected, it was already 1922. Finally, three U.S. Mints were able to strike the NEW dollar - Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. 1922 was the first year Denver and San Francisco produced the Peace Dollars. The Denver Mint produced only five Peace Dollars between the years 1921 and 1935. The mint marks can be found on the reverse of the coin, below the word "One."
