About this Product

President Monroe's was elected the 5th President of the United Sates, the party choice of both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. His Presidency was called the "Era of Good Feelings." During his presidency he was instrumental in the passing of the Missouri Compromise as well as the passing of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823. The doctrine would become a central part of American foreign policy throughout the 19th century, it is still an important part of policy today. Five Sates joined the Union during his presidency; Mississippi, Illinois, Alabama, Maine and Missouri.

In 1923, the US Mint celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Monroe Doctrine with the release of a special silver half dollar. The design is still considered by many one of the most beautiful coins ever issued. The obverse shows the heads of James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, with the reverse showing two female figures in the shape of the Western Hemisphere. It was struck at the San Francisco Mint.

Rarity and Value are the Keys behind this coin today. They only struck a few hundred thousand coins compared to a couple of million of the regular issue Walking Liberty Half Dollar ... but the Walking Liberty has a value multiple times that of the Monroe ? It is truly undervalued!

Each Uncirculated 1923 Monroe Doctrine Centennial issue comes encapsulated and protected in a felt pouch.
