About this Product

The United States Mint released the 1st official "Uncirculated" Mint set in 1947. It was introduced to give coin collectors the opportunity to acquire ALL denominations and mints that were released into circulation per year, per coinage issue. Unlike the Proof Sets, these are normal coins intended for circulation. The "Official" packaging is the United States Mint's stamp of authenticity as to the condition of the coins.

This 2006 United States Mint set is the 47th year of issue. In 2005 the set stayed the same as the 2004 set, 20 coins, but the entire set was introduced as a "Satin Finish" or "Specimen Set" for the first time in history! A "Satin Finish" coin is one that the dies are sand-blasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads, and this adds a luster to their shine. This set includes the following coins: Cent, Return to Monticello Nickel, Dime, Half Dollar, Sacagawea Dollar, and then the 8th year of issue of quarters from the 50 State Quarter Program. Those quarters are as follows: Nevada,Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota. Each coin was struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.

The 2006 set ranks #6th in mintage, with 934,360 struck,as of October 23, 2007.

Uncirculated sets sold by the US Mint from 1947 to 1958 contained two examples of each regular issue coin. These were packaged in cardboard holders that did not have a protective seal over the coins. Since 1959 the sets have been sealed in a protective plastic envelope. No official US Mint sets were issued in 1950, 1982 and 1983.
