A Prestige Proof Set Honoring American Greatness: The Rare 2007 Legacy Collection
2007 was a big year for coin collecting with the release of the inaugural issues in the Presidential Golden Dollar series, but what many collectors missed that year was one of the rarest modern issue U.S. Mint proof sets ever made: the 2007 Legacy Collection! This special edition set was produced to honor the Jamestown colony that was founded more than 400 years ago in 1607!
The Return of the Prestige Proof Sets
From 1983 all the way to 1997, the United States Mint produced a limited-edition proof set known as the ‘Prestige Proof Sets’. The only problem was that collectors LOVED these high-quality collections so much so that after an 8-year hiatus these iconic collections re-emerged as the new “American Legacy Collections”.
Luckily for the U.S. Mint, they struck gold twice! These new sets were not only loved by collectors for their high-quality strikes, multiple 90% Silver coins, and wonderful packaging, but their rarity as well! These sets typically had a mintage of less than 50,000....but this 2007 issue had even less! Only 27,000 sets were ever minted for this special release, making it one of the rarest Modern Issue U.S. Proof Sets ever produced!
