In Remembrance of today’s D-Day Anniversary: 2012 Defenders of Freedom Collection

Today is a very special anniversary… on this day more than 77 years ago, over 156,000 brave men would storm the beaches of Normandy, France in one of the largest amphibian military assaults in world history: D-Day. It was their courage and sacrifice that helped bring an end to World War II, one of the bloodiest eras in all of human history. In honor of their memory, we are bringing back a rare collection from 2012 honoring the U.S. Army Infantryman: The Defenders of Freedom Collection!

Valiant Heroes Remembered: A Set from the U.S. Mint Unlike Any Other!
This collection is truly special and honors the history and legacy of the U.S. Army Infantryman! This special silver dollar was released in 2012 by the United States Mint and was limited to a mintage of just 350,000 total coins!

The obverse design of the 2012 Infantryman Silver Dollar features a modern rendition of a U.S. Army infantryman with his rifle as he charges forward, ready to serve! The reverse of this silver dollar features two crossed muskets, an homage to their origin in founding and defending the fledgling United States of America!

To honor the release of this stunning silver dollar, the U.S. Mint produced a special ‘Defenders of Freedom’ honoring their role in actively defending the United States and Freedom worldwide. This special collection arrives in a custom-made folio featuring the words ‘This We’ll Defend’, a motto that was on the original emblem of the ‘Department of the Army’ back in 1778!

When you open the flap bearing those words, you are greeted with the following (iconic!) quote from President John F. Kennedy:

“LET EVERY NATION KNOW, WHETHER IT WISHES US WELL OR ILL, THAT WE SHALL PAY ANY PRICE, BEAR ANY BURDEN, MEET ANY HARDSHIP, SUPPORT ANY FRIEND, OPPOSE ANY FOE TO ASSURE THE SURVIVAL AND SUCCESS OF LIBERTY”

To the right of this quote is the 2012 Infantryman Proof Silver Dollar! The sets Certificate of Authenticity can be located on the back, and it was signed by then Deputy Director of the U.S. Mint Richard A. Peterson. In addition to all this, the special collection also comes with a replica dog-tag featuring the crossed muskets design from the coin!

But wait, it gets even better! Not only is this collection a truly stunning set that honors the bravest Americans among us, the U.S. Army Infantryman, but the U.S. Mint limited this set to a mintage of just 50,000!

That makes these special ‘Defenders of Freedom’ Sets one of the most sought after in all of collecting!
