A 2 and 3 Cent US Coin? You Bet!

Over the US Mint's first 100 years there are 3 US coins that have come and gone ... these Obsolete coins are true US Mint classics -- and still very affordable today.

A 2 Cent Coin?
First issued in 1864 the 2-cent coin is one of the shortest lived US Coins. The final circulation strike was made only 9 years later in 1872. The 2-cent goes down in history with 1 KEY first .. it was the first US Coin to bear the motto "In God We Trust". How rare are 2-cent pieces? The total mintage is less than one months cent production today

And a 3 Cent Nickel?
The three cent coin has an unusual history. It was proposed in 1851 as a result of the decrease in postage rates from five cents to three. The 3-cent Nickel was introduced during the Civil War as an attempt by the US Government to get coins into circulation. Most silver and copper coins were hoarded. The 3 cent nickel was composed of copper and nickel and meant as a stop gap only until war time hoarding ceased. One reason often given for the discontinuation of the three cent nickel piece was it was identical in diameter to that of the dime, and caused confusion with the advent of mechanical vending machines

This set consists of the 2-cent & 3-cent. Each is encapsulated and protected by a velvet pouch.
