Benjamin Harrison, our 23rd President, is the grandson of William Henry Harrison our 9th President. He served the Union during the Civil War as a Brigadier General in the XX Corps of the Army of the Cumberland. He was appointed to the US Senate in 1881. He is most remembered for his economic legislation, which included the McKinley Tariff and Sherman Antitrust Act. Harrison is known as the Centennial President because his inauguration celebrated the centenary of the first inauguration of George Washington in 1789. Under his presidency 6 states were entered into the union, more than any one President since Washington. Harrison has been honored on six US Postage stamps.
