The 2015 John F. Kennedy Presidential Dollar
Born in 1917, John F. Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States of America. After military services as commander of Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-59 during WWII in the South Pacific, Kennedy represented Massachusetts's 11th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947-1953. Kennedy defeated Vice President and Republican candidate Richard Nixon in 1960 and became the youngest man to have been elected to the office.
Kennedy wasted no time in dismantling Eisenhower's methods. He was ready and willing to make the increased number of quick decisions required in such an environment. His foreign policy was dominated by American confrontations with the Soviet Union.
One of Kennedy's most notable, and infamous. errors was the Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961, which resulted in Kennedy being forced to negotiate the release of over 1,800 U.S.-trained Cubans.
On the domestic front, Kennedy openly supported racial integration and civil rights. In 1961, he signed an Executive Order which required government contractors to take action to ensure applicants are employed and employees are treated without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin.
Tragically, Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22nd. 1963. To this day conspiracies surround his death, and doubts remain as to the guilt of Lee Harvey Oswald.
Kennedy ranks highly in public opinion ratings of U.S. Presidents, however, there is a gap between his public reputation and his reputation among academics.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
